Celebrity PR: What celebrity’s PR representatives do?

Organizations are not the only ones to worry about their reputation. Celebrities care a lot about their image, and sometimes they can’t manage everything on their own, especially when it comes to negative press and crisis situations. One single mistake or clumsiness can destroy their career. It can be an inappropriate statement on an interview, a fight with someone in a public place, drugs or sexual behaviors etc. And this is where celebrity PR comes in.

Public Relations representatives’ main missions are to manage the image of the celebrity they are working for, get positive press coverage for them, handle crisis, find opportunities to make public appearances and promoting them to the public and media. Their job can sound very exciting to you, and it sure is. But it can also be very tough, especially if their clients have the habit of putting themselves in embarrassing situations. So if you want to know more about this job, here are some things that celebrity’s public relations representatives do.

Crisis management

Sometimes, celebrities can put themselves in very delicate situations. Remember when Britney Spears shaved her head? When Lindsay Lohan was pictured with a knife on Vanessa Minillo’s throat? Or when High School Musical super star Vanessa Hudgens was posing naked on the internet? Well, PR representatives job is to manage this kind of situations. They need to find what to say to the media in order to calm down the public and make the celebrity look good, even if this one is indefensible. They also need to come up with strategies to overshadow the bad events and make the public forget about them.

Public appearances

Celebrity’s PR representatives also need to keep an eye on opportunities for their client to make public appearances and be seen. It can be through interviews with popular media, photoshoots, events, red carpet appearances, participations in popular tv shows or collaborations with brands for example. They need to keep on making new contacts that can help the celebrity have more visibility.

Internet scrubbing

Another thing celebrity’s PR representatives need to look after is what is said about their client on the internet. Usually, when a person is known, nasty posts can be found on the internet about him or her, and these nasty posts can really damage the celebrity’s reputation. The PR representative’s mission is to find ways to make these kind of posts deleted. Same thing goes with websites using the celebrity’s pictures without respecting copyright rules. The PR professional needs to know how to take them off the web.

Social media

Aside from scrubbing the bad stuff from the internet, celebrity’s PR representatives need to master social media platforms. That means they need to know how to manage the celebrity’s different accounts on social media. They can be in charge of posting content on Instagram, managing sponsored posts on Facebook and Twitter, posting tweets, managing their YouTube channel etc. They should know how to control the celebrity's image on social media perfectly.
